With an AIR by Design plan:

The builder/owner knows exactly what to expect. Every aspect of your HVAC design will be included in the bid, not just the standard items.

The builder/owner knows exactly what to expect.

Decisions can be made to alter the plans, before the framing is completed, so that proper-sized duct is run to supply the proper amount of air to where it is needed.

The price quoted is rigid, unless changes are required because of building plan changes; therefore, there is no surprise in the cost, and the installation is what was agreed on, that is, the design.

The system is designed to ensure that the house will not pressurize or depressurize when doors are closed. Interior door closure causing pressurization and depressurization is one of the biggest culprits in infiltration.

The owner first gets an education on the many choices that can be made in designing the system. Then, they actually choose the type of system, its efficiency, the material used for ducting, the filtration system, the fresh air intake, register and return grille location, register selection, zoning and even efficiency of duct fittings.

The ducts are sized properly for efficient air movement, correct airflow to each room, and a quiet system. The registers and grilles are sized to provide the best performance based on the correct airflow. According to AEC, improper airflow reduces the efficiency of a typical system by 4.2%.

The equipment is sized based on all of the envelope's insulation values, and in particular that actual window's thermal performance, shading due to overhangs, porches, awnings, duct location, and the actual infiltration/ventilation rate. The heat gain calculated is compared to manufacturer's cooling performance to choose the best equipment for maintaining not only the temperature, but also the humidity. According to AEC, incorrect sizing reduces the system efficiency by 6.3%.

Ducts are required to be sealed with materials that will last the life of the duct. Performance testing is required to prove air tightness.

The installation can be inspected and performance tested to assure it meets the standards set forth on the blueprint and specifications. These are other services provided by AIR by Design
